Jersey offers more than table-tossing Housewives

July 29th, 2009

One thing’s for sure, this ain’t your parents’ Woodstock. But chances are New Jersey will have its share of broken hearts and unplanned pregnancies. All Points West Music & Arts Festival is set to take place at Liberty State Park, in Jersey City, July 31.

The three-day festival kicks-off with a pre-party July 30 – in Time Squares Nokia Theater, featuring Method Man and Redman. While the extensive list of supporting acts over the three days include Pharcyde, Q-Tip, Ra Ra Riot, Lykke Li, Neko Case, Arctic Monkeys, and The Ting Tings, there’s Janeane Garofolo thrown in to the line-up for good measure. Bewildered? We are. But, considering the hilarity of We Are Scientists, this music fest could turn into nights of unexpected anecdotes. (Sample anecdote: Chris Cain, bass guitarist of We Are Scientists, Twittered about his naked night watching Total Recall with Sharon Stone at the Mandarin Hotel.)

The festival’s magnetism is its headliners: Jay-Z, Coldplay, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, MGMT, and Tool. So, after that teen-angst-loving punk you met 30 minutes ago goes and breaks your hipster heart, mend it by dancing the night away to MSTRKRFT’s “Heartbreaker.” Nothing says rebound like passionate dancing. http://www.apwfestival.com
