If you haven’t already heard of filmmaker Mark Lewis, allow us to introduce you. Making films that deal with sociological issues (race, class, and tolerance), Mark Lewis has been given the honour of representing Canada at the 2009 Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition, Making Worlds. A perfect venue and title to exhibit Lewis’s two films: Nathan Phillips Square, A Winter’s Night, Skating and The Fight.

If you care about fashion, even a smidge, you’ll want to sit up tall this week and pay attention. This Thursday kicks off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, the first of the major fashion weeks worldwide to present Spring/Summer 2010 collections. The Block team will be there, of course, wide-eyed and ready to TWEET from the sidelines, and to post a few photos and videos too. But as we get ready for such a trip, tying up loose ends here at the office and packing our bags before racing to the airport, we can only imagine the flurry of frantic designers and their teams swirling around countless fashion studios and sewing rooms all over Manhattan this very second. They’re all just days away from their runway shows, and you can bet they have more to do before show time than they have time to do it.

Successful Living, a line of furniture created by Diesel – spearheaded by Diesel’s Creative Director, Wilbert Das – has collaborated with Foscarini to create a series of lamps to illuminate homes in all styles.
